How was your interest in design sparked? Growing up my dad was a builder so I learned how to read floor plans, look through framed houses, and see the development of new builds at a young age. Going in and out of parade homes and seeing the finished product was really exciting to me and I always wanted to be a part of that process.
Experience/qualifications: I graduated from UNL in the Interior Design program in 2014 with minors in graphic design, studio art, and art history. I have been a design assistant for the last 3 years and am slowly building my cliental. I am also a member of the American Society of Interior Designers and am preparing to take the NCIDQ exam.
What is your favorite spot in your own home? I would say my bedroom because it is private, quiet, and cozy. It’s the most personal space in the house because most people don’t ever see it.
Community involvement: I am an active member of Young Building Professional Council, the Home Builders Association of Lincoln, and the HBAL Remodelers Council. I am also the chair of the Residential and Interior Design contest for the Home & Garden show every spring.
Design Tip: Don’t be afraid to add a splash of your favorite color! Bright, bold colors used in accessories, paint, art, and small furniture pieces are the easiest way to add some character and personality to your neutral room in the most cost effective way.
